Halloween Mystery Bag

As I mentioned in my 13 Things on Etsy You Need If You Love Halloween post, I ordered this Halloween mystery bag from SugarMilkCo and told you I would post my thoughts once I received it. I was absolutely excited to receive this and see what goodies I got. It was also my first time ordering from this little vegan bath and body shop, and if you continue reading, you’ll find it was a bit of a hit and a miss.

First things first, the packaging. I absolutely loved that it came with a little hand written note thanking me for my purchase. I also loved the little gift bag that the goodies came in. It’s super cute!

Now onto the individual items that I received…

A bath bomb! Not just any bath bomb, but one inspired by the chocolate frogs in Harry Potter. Yes, this bath bomb is chocolate scented. Sounds delightful, doesn’t it? And look at the gold glitter! I was quite interested in trying this, and more on this to come toward the end of the post.

This is the item I was happiest to receive and most excited to try out. I had never used a whipped soap before, but it’s something I’ve been interested in trying. Plus, it’s a delicious Fall scent – Pumpkin Caramel Latte. It does smell just like the name suggests. I quite like this product, and I’m definitely happy I received it. I will say the texture is a bit different than I imagined. For some reason, I thought it was going to be super soft, like whipped cream. The texture is actually a bit more solid. It’s still soft enough to scoop some out with your fingers though. The perfect way to describe the texture of this soap is like butter. After trying this one, I would certainly purchase more of their soaps.

I received this Almond Cookie perfume and fell in love. It’s just a sample size though. The shop allows you to buy perfumes in sample sizes or full sizes, which I think is great. I always love when shops allow you to buy samples for a cheaper price, that way you can see if you like it before you invest more money into it. In this case, I absolutely LOVE this scent! It really does smell like a delicious cookie! I definitely would purchase the full size of this once I run out. The only issue I had with this is that I couldn’t get it to spray at first. I thought it was broken, and I was so upset. Finally, I did get it to work. It’s now my new favorite scent, although it does make me hungry for a batch of cookies.

Typically, I would be excited to receive this Pink Bubblegum lip scrub. Except, not that long ago I purchased a pink bubblegum lip scrub from another company. So now I have two. What are the odds? Anyway, I did give this one a try to see how it compared to the Fizz & Bubble lip scrub I already had. For starters, I liked the texture of this one better, as it was slightly softer. The smell was about the same though. The Fizz & Bubble one is edible (and yummy), but I wasn’t sure if this one was as the container does not state. I licked my lips, and I was met with a bitter taste. So no, I would not consider this edible. Regardless of that, I actually preferred this lip scrub. I thought it made my lips softer than the other one. I seriously love how my lips feel after using this, and I would definitely purchase more of their lip scrubs in the future.

As a bonus, I also received this candy corn pencil and a little notepad. These are not items sold in the shop, they were just thrown in as an added extra. I really don’t use pencils as I prefer pens, but this one is cute. I might have to use it. The notebook will come in handy when I need to jot things down.

After totaling up the cost of these items sold in the shop, the total comes to $25.50. This mystery bag cost $18, so I consider it a decent value. I would consider buying another mystery bag from this company if they do one for Christmas.

However, there is one item I received that I actually had a terrible experience with. That would be the Magic Frog Bath Bomb. Although this shop has a 5/5 rating, with over 500+ reviews, I did not like this bath bomb at all. It was a terrible experience, and it makes me wary to try any of their other bath bombs (even though they do have some cute ones). I’m hoping it was just from a particular ingredient in it, and maybe the other bath bombs are better.

Starting out, I knew the bath bomb probably wasn’t going to be aesthetically pleasing since it was brown. Certainly not one of the prettiest colors. It did smell like a yummy milk chocolate though, so I couldn’t wait to try it out.

You can see what the bath bomb looked like after it finished fizzing. As you can see, not the prettiest. However, bathing in a chocolate fragrance just sounded amazing to me in the moment. After a long week of work, I couldn’t wait to get in, soak, and relax. Unfortunately, what started out as a relaxation venture didn’t end up as such.

The smell wasn’t as enticing as I originally thought. It actually ended up being minimal and not as potent as other bath bombs I’ve used. I also realized pretty quickly after getting in the water that this was not going to go well. For starters, I could see the residue forming across the tub, and my skin was suddenly turning brown like I was bathing in self tanner.

I think the photos say enough. This was not a pleasant experience. I had to turn the shower on afterwards and scrubbed my body several times just to try to get the brown residue off my skin. Then I had to clean the bathtub, and believe me that was not easy. It took some heavy duty cleaner and a lot of scrubbing. Definitely not relaxing in any way. I will say that this bath bomb made my skin soft, but that’s it. I would never ever use this bath bomb again in my life.

Aside from this bad bath bomb experience, I would rate this mystery bag a 3/5. I would still purchase other products from this company and maybe even other mystery bags. The other products I got are truly lovely, so don’t avoid this company just because of one bad product. If I do ever try any of their other bath bombs in the future, I will certainly keep you updated with my thoughts.

  1. So many goodies! Lip scrubs usually make my lips so dry and I LOL’d when I read that you licked your lips to see if it was edible like your other one. That bath bomb looks like a mess. I’d be so sad if I had to clean that all up when I just wanted a relaxing bubble bath!

Your tattoos are so beautiful, by the way! And I really love how you shop on Etsy and support the small businesses. ❤

    1. Aww, really? This lip scrub made my lips feel super soft. It has castor oil in it, so it moisturizes.

Thanks! My last tattoo I got was 4 years ago. 😦 I want more, but I’m so indecisive about what I want.

      1. I wonder why my lips hate lip scrubs—I’ve tried all kinds but I’m not sure if any of ‘em had castor oil in it? Hmm.

And yeah I totally get that, I have two tattoos and I doubt I’ll ever get any more because it’s hard to come up with what I’d want. I always wanted colorful tattoos like yours but I don’t feel it would be so flattering on my skin tone lol.

  2. I don’t really get to use bath bombs, because the draining in our tub is screwed up. I have to use a plug, but it doesn’t always work.
Yuck. That bath bomb looks so nasty. It did make it look like you were bathing in self tan. I would have fell for it too, because I love chocolate.

  3. I’ve never heard of this store but if they do a Christmas mystery bag I would definitely be interested in purchasing ☹️ It’s terrible you had such a bad experience with th bath bomb. I love bath bombs and never had any experience like that with any of the ones I’ve used, so odd

  4. I was excited to see the bath bomb but then it kind of disappointed me ahah. If you had trouble cleaning the tub after then well, that’s not relaxing at all. At least for me.
By the way, WOW! you have amazing tattoos!
