The Christmas Tag

I keep seeing this tag floating around, and it looks super cool so I’ve decided to participate. Each post I see seems to have a different variation of questions in it, so I’m just going to pick some of the questions I’ve seen and create my own variation also.

What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Home Alone

Do you dress up for Christmas or do you stay in your pajamas?
Sometimes I do dress up on Christmas Eve. Nothing fancy though. I usually just wear something red or try to do festive makeup. If I stay home on Christmas Day, then I just stay in my pajamas all day, usually.

Have you ever had a White Christmas?
A few times, but it has been a while. Most of our snow comes in January and February.

What is your favorite Christmas song?
“Carol of the Bells” is my favorite. There’s also a couple dubstep remixes that use the tune of that song that I really love called Home Alone and Scary Christmas. Lindsey Stirling (She’s amazing!) also just posted a beautiful violin rendition.

Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
Ever since I was a little kid, my dad’s side of the family has celebrated on Christmas Eve. Since my parents were not together, this allowed my dad’s side to have more time with me for the holiday. We always get together, have a meal, and open gifts. However, now that me and my cousins are all older, there isn’t presents all over the floor like there used to be. I usually just get some money and that’s it. I always loved this growing up though because I got two days of Christmas and presents instead of just one.

Favorite festive food?
I love having Glazed Ham on Christmas Day. I also look forward to getting some Hickory Farms goodies every year for the holiday’s. It can be rather expensive, but it’s a great treat. I love pairing the pineapple mustard with the beef sausage. The hot mustard is good too, but the pineapple is my favorite. Apparently they also have a cranberry mustard that I haven’t tried yet, but I really want to.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
We’ve always had fake trees at my house. They’re just easier to deal with, and you can reuse them each year. However, when I was a kid my grandma on my dad’s side always had a real tree that I would help her decorate. I loved getting to decorate a real tree. Although, one night I went to go to the bathroom and stepped on a pine needle and that was not pleasant.

If you have pets, do they get into the Christmas tree?
Kitty Cameron still gets into the tree at times. He mostly chews it, and he’s gotten sick twice now from chewing it. Back when he was really young, he was constantly in it and knocking all the ornaments off. I would be in my room and could hear the ornaments jingling. He’s knocked a couple off so far this year, but he’s not as bad with it as he used to be. Kitty Chloe (RIP) also used to constantly chew on the tree.

Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
As I’ve stated above, I’ve always spent Christmas Eve with my dad’s side of the family. Aside from exchanging gifts and just spending time together, we also usually have steamed shrimp (with Old Bay seasoning) to eat.

What made you realize the truth about Santa?
I don’t remember exactly how old I was, but I know I was still really young. I had walked into the kitchen and caught my grandma writing “From Santa” on one of the gifts, so I knew from that moment.

What is your favorite holiday drink?
Hot chocolate with marshmallows or a Toasted Marshmallow Frozen Latte.

What is your favorite holiday sweet treat?
Gingerbread. Yum!

Do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
Honestly, receiving gifts. Giving gifts is really stressful for me because I’m always worried about what to buy them and if they will like it.

Are you a pro-present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I think I’ve gotten a little better at it, but I’m still pretty bad.

Have you ever gone Christmas Caroling?
Yes, once. When I was in Girl Scouts, we went to a nursing home and sang Christmas carols for the people there. It was actually fun, and I still remember how happy and lit up their faces were.

White lights or colored lights?
Colored. White lights can still be pretty, but I find them a little boring.

Hot chocolate or Egg Nog?
Hot chocolate. I’ve actually never had egg nog.

Do you make New Years Resolutions?
I don’t, actually. Unless you really want to make a change, you won’t follow through with it. If there is a goal you really want to meet, you can work towards it at any time in the year. Not just the start of the new year.

  1. I haven’t seen tags floating around in forever! It’s great that you have a little family tradition with Christmas. I agree with you – it’s easier to reuse fake Christmas trees! Ouch, now I know why I don’t want a real Christmas tree with all of the loose pine needles.

Haha, it’s always easier to receive gifts :). Hope you’ll have a nice December!

  2. Mmm I love Hickory Farms goodies! And I don’t have a tree because I know my cats would destroy it ha that’s awesome that Kitty Cameron is getting better at leaving the tree alone!

This was such a cute tag, I enjoyed reading your answers. 🙂

    1. I used to get so annoyed because he wouldn’t leave the tree alone, but it was also kind of cute. When we would put up the tree and he saw all the ornaments, his face would light up like it was a massive toy just for him. haha

  3. I agreed with pretty much everything that you wrote! We put white lights on my tree this year because it was what we had, then when we turned it on (with the lights off) that’s when I realized that our tree looked soo boring. Ominous even, because the lights weren’t bright enough. Hope you have a wonderful (stress-free) holiday!
