Settling In

It’s almost nearing two weeks since my last post, but like I said in my last entry, I would probably be too busy to post. That has definitely been the case. I’ve been busy packing, moving, and unpacking. I still have to unpack all my movies and books, but I’ve managed to get everything else unpacked and put away.

It still feels a little surreal that I’m a home owner now, but I am really enjoying it here so far. It has been so much fun decorating to my liking and putting my own personality into the house. I do not have anything to put on some of the walls yet, and I still need to get the curtains up, but it’s already looking so cozy. I am in love!

The couch is brand new, and my mom bought it for me. It is beautiful! It just really adds a cozy elegance to the living room that I was looking for. I bought the table lamp from Walmart. It’s a little hard to see in the photo, but the base is the Eiffel Tower and the lamp shade says Bonjour on it. I love the color of it, and it’s a pretty lamp, but I would not recommend it simply because the shade is paper thin and came with some dents in it that I couldn’t get out. I bought the furry rug and throw pillows from amazon. I love them! It really brings the whole look together. I am so scared of kitty Cameron getting sick on the rug though because I imagine that would be a nightmare to clean. It will probably happen too, especially since there is no carpet downstairs. I just couldn’t resist getting it though because I love faux fur, and it really completes the look I was going for.

I really like the pink color and rose design of the throw pillow covers. Guess what silly me did though? I accidentally bought the wrong size for the pillow inserts I had and they wouldn’t fit. I didn’t want to wait to order new ones, so I improvised. I grabbed some plastic bags and stuffed them inside to fluff them out a little. Hey, it worked. haha

My skull shower curtain I also got from amazon. I am in love with it! Anyone who knows me knows that I love stuff with skulls on it, and the flowers just add a nice chic touch to it. For the downstairs bathroom, I just used a Paris painting that I already had, and I think it gives the bathroom a nice feel.

I am completely in love with my new bedroom already! I still have to hang my curtains, my calendar, and some other stuff on the wall, but it still looks great already. I was worried my new bedroom wouldn’t have the same vibe to it, but it does. I think I might even like this one better. My computer desk isn’t in the corner anymore, so it feels more open. It’s also right next to my window, so I can see outside when I am on the computer, and I love that. One thing I hated about my old room was how dark and dreary it seemed, even when I had my blinds open. It got very little light into it. Not here. I get so much more natural light flowing into my bedroom here and it is absolutely amazing! I can really feel the difference in my mood from the extra light too.

I would like to eventually put up some fairy lights or something, but for now I still have to have my mood lighting. I like to use colored light bulbs in my lamp. I have quite a few different colors that I can use and switch out based on my mood. For now, I put my pink light in, which is my favorite.

In the above photo, I had my ceiling light on as well so you can see my bedding a little better. It’s new too! It was actually a kids set, but I don’t care, I love it. It was one of those Bed in a Bag sets from Walmart and only cost just over $30 for two pillowcases, two pillow shams, fitted and flat sheet, and the comforter. It’s a steal! I bought a bed in a bag set from there over a decade ago when I was in high school and that set wasn’t that comfortable, so I wasn’t expecting much with this. I was pleasantly surprised. The fabric is actually very soft considering the price. The sheets are a little thin though, you can somewhat see my mattress through it, but I don’t really care about that.

Those pillows that are on the floor beside of my bed, I just sat those there while I was putting my bedding on, and I actually ended up loving them there. I decided to keep them there for decoration. It can also make a nice little reading area if I want.

My dad got me these pretty blue towels and crab magnets as a housewarming gift. I love them! I especially love that blue crab. It’s so cute. Blue crabs are my favorite thing to eat, and me and my dad always eat them together in the summer a lot.

Poor kitty Cameron was petrified of the move, as expected. As soon as I brought him in the house, he immediately jumped up and hid in this space behind the microwave and he didn’t move from there for a day and a half. Then I finally managed to lure him out, and he slowly started investigating the house. Watching him master the stairs has been kind of amusing. He had never had to climb stairs before. He was kind of zig zagging on the stairs, and he would keep looking behind him and poking his head around. He’s started to get used to them now.

Cameron has now made himself at home, and he seems to like to spend the majority of his time in my bedroom. He’s still not eating much, but cats usually lose some of their appetite when they’re in a new environment. I’m sure he will get back into his routine soon.

One great thing I love about living here so far is that I get views of both the sunrise as well as the sunset. I couldn’t really see either where I lived before because the view was totally obstructed. While trees and houses do block some of the view here, it’s still enough to see a pretty sky. I am obsessed with gorgeous skies, so this is excellent! I’ve already snapped some sky photos just from the few days I’ve been living here. The photo above is from the sunrise this morning because I could not sleep for some reason. This view is from the back side of my house. The photos below are of some sunsets, which I can see from the front of my house. I just wish the screens in my windows didn’t go all the way up because I can’t take a photo out of my windows without it leaving a texture on the photos. I should have just taken those from outside, but the view is better from the second floor.

I decided to go get my hair done today because it needed it bad. My roots were grown out almost halfway down my head, and my hair was getting stringy at the bottoms. I got it cut and got my highlights redone. I love the color! No more roots, and my hair is much lighter now. However, she did cut my layers a little shorter than I wanted. Thankfully my hair grows pretty fast.

Afterwards, I went next door to Quiznos and got the Chipotle Steak & Cheddar sub. I love Quiznos! I haven’t been there in so long though, but now that I live much closer to it, I am going to go more often. It’s one of the few chain restaurants that I really like. It was my first time getting this particular sub though, and it was so delicious. I am definitely going to get it again.

Now I’ve got to go back to work tomorrow, and I am really dreading it. For starters, I always hate going back after having time off because things are always a mess. I’m dreading it even more now because I am loving being in my new house so much that I just don’t want to leave and be gone for 10 hours. Well, I’ve got to pay for the house somehow though.

  1. Congratulations. It’s so nice to have your own space. Mrs A goes crazy for decorating and adding little touches to make the place lovely. I’ve spent so much time sanding floors over the past six years that my hands still shake at the thought, but you can’t beat that feeling of being a homeowner. Plus, love Quiznos steak and cheese. Almost makes me wish I wasn’t veggie anymore. Have fun.

  2. Your living room is perfect! The couch, fur rug, pillows, and the lamp all look so good together. Hopefully Cameron finds elsewhere to get sick, I imagine it would be tough to clean out of that fur. I wouldn’t have noticed about the plastic bags if you didn’t mention it lol!
That shower curtain is so you and that Paris painting is so pretty!
What a great idea to put the computer by the window. So nice that you’re getting more natural lighting now! $30 for an entire bed in a bag (including comforter) WOW that is a steal!!
I love that crab magnet too!!! Adorable!
All the sky pictures are so beautiful! How lovely that you have so many good views of it in your new home!!!
Your new hair looks so good too!! The cut and color are both perfect on you!
The sandwich from Quiznos looks delicious. I’ve never been there before!

    1. Thank you! 💜💕💚 I can’t believe you haven’t been to Quiznos. Do you have one there? Whenever there is a poll comparing Quiznos and Subway, Subway always wins by a lot and I can’t understand it. I think Quiznos is miles better. The one here that I go to is managed very well. It’s always clean and the food is always fresh.

      1. Yeah I think there are Quizno’s here? Not too many though. There’s a lot of this other chain sandwich shop called Port O Subs here. And of course, Subway– yeah, I’m not a fan. I love Potbelly’s the most, do they have those where you are?!

    1. Thanks! It’s so nice having a whole house that fits my style and feels like mine as opposed to just being able to decorate my bedroom. 🙂 Of course my bedroom is still the main place I hang out because that’s just what I’m used to.

  4. I love what you’ve done to the place so far, especially your bedroom and living room. Those are my favorite rooms in my own house too lol.
And I love your new haircut too!!
And… you’re making me crave Quiznos!! I’ll have to make the drive to our neighboring state to get some lol

  5. I am so happy for you. Your new crib is looking awesome so far. I can’t believe how quickly you’ve settled in. I’m sure it’ll be just a matter of time before Cameron warms up. Takes the furry friends just a bit longer to adjust to their new environment. He’ll discover that he has so much more room to explore.

Ever since I got food poisoning from Quiznos here in Delaware, I haven’t been back. I used to love the Roast beef sub with horsey sauce and that’s literally all I used to get. LOL. I suppose that I’ll get the courage one of these days to give it another chance. I think the beef was either sitting out too long or undercooked. I threw up for like 4 days. 😦

Again, Thank you for letting me know about my captcha being broken. I’ve been wondering why I haven’t gotten any comments on my last few posts.

    1. Yeah, sounds like your Quiznos probably wasn’t following protocol with the food. Probably employees that just didn’t care. The Quiznos I go to is run really well. I like the manager there. He’s really nice.

Cameron is already warming up to the place. I think he likes it. He stays in my bedroom a lot though. That is his favorite place.
