One Year of Blogging!

759

It’s June 21st, which means I’ve officially hit the one year mark here on my blog! Of course I’ve been blogging way longer than a year, but this was my first year being back after a six year break. It’s hard to believe that it has already been a year since my first post here at Surrealistique.

I would be lying if I said I still showed the same enthusiasm as I did when I first created this blog. I don’t want to be negative, but I want to be real, so I figured I would share my feelings on the matter. As much as I do enjoy blogging, it does feel like a chore at times. I think it’s the pressure from the blogging community that you have stick to a certain schedule and don’t go too long without posting. Do this. Do that. I just can’t stick with that rhythm any longer. Writing and posting is enjoyable to me when I feel like I have something I want to share, but I don’t want to force it.

You may have noticed I’ve been posting less than what I used to. This is because I’ve decided that I’m just going to blog whenever I feel like it. I might lose some of my audience in the process, as I basically already have. My views and interaction is literally half what it used to be. I really enjoyed growing my blog and audience in the beginning. It was like a challenge each month to see if I could do better than the previous month. I did… for a while. Then it was like I was going backwards, so I didn’t quite have as much motivation anymore.

Still, it’s my loyal readers who keep me going. I know there are still those who love to see new posts from me, so no worries, I am not going anywhere. With working a full time job and still trying to have time for my other hobbies, I’m just not going to put as much pressure on blogging anymore. Like I mentioned, I will blog whenever I have something I want to share.

With that said, here are some statistics and what not from the past year.

Followers: 964
My goal was to have 1,000 followers by my one year mark. I didn’t quite make it, but I came pretty close.

Total posts: 128
Technically, this post will be 129.

Visitors: 7,237

My best views was on January 9, 2018.

Best month: January 2018
I had 857 visitors and 2,913 views this month.

Worst month: July 2017
Technically, June had the lowest stats. However, since I started this blog at the tail end of it, I didn’t count that. I decided to go with a full month, so that makes it July. My blog was still new then though, so it’s not surprising. I had 202 visitors and 552 views this month.

Most posts published: August 2017
I published 18 posts in this month, which is quite a lot for me. My average for the past year was between 7 and 11.

Top Commenters: Hunida and Rossy
Hunida has left a total of 58 comments on my blog so far. Rossy has left a total of 42.

Thanks for reading and sticking by me!

  1. Happy birthday to your blog! I think it’s totally fine that you don’t stick to a schedule. It’s better to write when you really want to. I think your statistics are great!

  2. Happy birthday blog! I feel like this is good to share because there is a lot of pressure from the blogging world to be a certain way, I’m glad you shred your opinion x x

  3. Wow congrats!! Happy first blogiversary!! It can be hard to run a blog and sometimes it even seems a bit competitive but it’s always good to take a step back when you need it and never feel forced to post on everyone’s schedule. 😊

  4. Congrats on making it to a year! That’s amazing!

I tried to stick to a schedule for a while, but I didn’t enjoy it as much, so now I just post when I feel like it. I’ve never been bothered about my stats anyway!

  5. Congrats on the one year! I hit my one year in June too πŸ™‚ I have noticed quite a few fellow bloggers are feeling a bit lackluster about blogging currently, which I can agree with as I am too. Maybe there is something in the water? ;P

    1. Thank you. Congrats to you too! Yes, I’ve noticed that too. A few seem to be leaning more toward doing YouTube videos over blogging, but I have no interest in doing that.
