Time for another recently watched post. I’m going to try to do one of these after every three to four movies I’ve watched. I might include shows as well, as I have some I’m currently watching. I want to get to the end of them though before giving my thoughts. I’ve watched a few more movies recently, so here are my thoughts on those. You can see my thoughts on other movies in my last Recently Watched on Netflix post.

Playdate (2012)
Netflix synopsis: After befriending a family that’s just moved in next door, Emily Valentine is starting to realize that these new neighbors are hiding a deadly secret.

My rating: 2.5/5

My thoughts: This has Lifetime movie written all over it. After watching, I looked it up, and it actually is a made for TV movie. I knew it! I love Lifetime movies though, so I was okay with that. However, as far as TV movies go, this one isn’t one of my favorites. It had potential, but I just thought it was really predictable. Everything I thought was going to happen, did happen. It was good for one watch, but it’s not really one that I would care to watch again. The little girl in this movie, played by Natalie Alyn Lind, did great in this movie. I looked her up afterwards, and it turns out she’s the daughter of Barbara Alyn Woods (who played Deb on One Tree Hill, one of my favorite shows). I had no idea. Not only that, but she looks so grown now. She’s currently 19 and so absolutely beautiful!

Teenage Bank Heist (2012)
Netflix synopsis: Cassie, 17, works as a teller at the bank where her mother, Joyce, is the branch manager. When the bank is robbed, Cassie is taken hostage. She soon finds out that the bank robbers are teenage girls.

My rating: 4.5/5

My thoughts: I follow Abbie Cobb, who plays one of the main characters, on instagram. I saw her post about Netflix streaming this movie, so I knew I had to watch it. I think Abbie is so cute. Anyways, I really loved this movie, much more than I thought I would. You do need to have some suspension of disbelief when watching this, but that’s the case with a lot of movies. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and there was never a dull moment. I thought the whole cast was great. This is one of those movies that I could see myself watching over and over again. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s still enjoyable and fun to watch.

Room (2015)
Netflix synopsis: Kidnapped, confined to a tiny room and raped, a young woman gives birth to a son. When he reaches his fifth birthday, she begins plotting an escape.

My rating: 4/5

My thoughts: This movie was a bit different than I expected it to be. I was thinking it was solely going to be about a woman trying to break her and her son free from her kidnapper. While that is part of the movie, it ended up being so much more. This films deals more with the aftermath of dealing with a traumatic event like this. You’re physically free but not emotionally free. Watching the little boy discover an entire new world that he never knew existed but then say he wanted to go back to “the room” (because that’s all he ever knew for his entire life) was heart wrenching. This film was intense and emotional, to say the least. It was a good movie, but it was not a fun or enjoyable movie. It invoked a lot of negative emotions in me, but it’s definitely a movie that is worth a watch just once. The actor who plays the little boy was so cute, and I thought Brie Larson did a terrific job.

Emelie (2016)
Netflix synopsis: A suburban couple hires a new sitter to watch their three kids for the night, unaware that the young woman isn’t who she claims to be.

My rating: 3/5

My thoughts: This was a good thriller, albeit kind of predictable. It reminded me of the movie Orphan a little, except with an evil babysitter. The antagonist even looks a little bit like Isabelle Fuhrman. There were a couple scenes in the movie that were creepy and made me a little uncomfortable, and not too many movies do that to me. The babysitters motive bugged me a little though because certain things she did made no sense. I thought there was a better way to enact her plan without being so over the top and getting the kids to dislike and be suspicious of her first. I guess she just wanted to toy with them first, I don’t know. Overall, this movie kept me entertained, but it’s about what you would expect from an evil babysitter plot.
