I watched two movies on Netflix over the weekend, Terrifier and It Follows. I just love horror, what can I say. Here are my thoughts on the two flicks.
Terrifier (2017)
Synopsis: On Halloween night, inside a dilapidated apartment building, Art the Clown stalks his victims, slicing and slaughtering in terrifying silence.
My rating: 5/5
My thoughts: I was always a huge fan of horror movies growing up, but recently I haven’t been very interested in a lot of the newer horror movies that have come out within the last decade. Slashers from the 80’s and 90’s are my favorite, and the modern day horror films just don’t seem to have that essence or creepiness anymore. Enter Terrifier. As soon as I saw this movie show up on my Netflix screen, I knew I had to watch it. The creepy looking clown really caught my eye. However, I kept putting it off because I was afraid it was going to be stupid. I finally watched this on Sunday night, and let me tell you, Pennywise ain’t got nothing on Art the clown. He has got to be the creepiest clown I’ve ever seen. The actor who portrayed him did a fantastic job of bringing him to life. Art never talks throughout the movie, but he doesn’t need to. All of his eerie movements and facial expressions do the talking for him.
Aside from having a very memorable and scary villain, this film also has plenty of blood and gore. It’s basically a slasher lover’s dream come true. Some of the kills actually reminded me a bit of the Hostel films. If you’re more of a psychological horror fan and don’t really like torture and violence, then this isn’t the movie for you. Some people didn’t really like this movie because of stupid decisions the characters make throughout. However, that didn’t bother me. It was pretty obvious by the tone of the movie that this was meant to feel somewhat like an 80’s horror film, and I think it did that quite well. Along with 80’s horror comes 80’s horror tropes, which include characters making bad decisions. Therefore, I feel like the characters being dumb was done on purpose.
Another thing I loved about this movie was the music score. It was dark, it was eerie, and it was amazing. It fit the vibe of the movie perfectly and really added to the creep factor. Marilyn Manson’s guitarist, Paul Wiley, is actually the one who did the score. He really did a fantastic job. I’m in love with the Terrifier theme song, which you can listen to here on YouTube.
It Follows (2015)
Synopsis: After a sexual tryst, Jay learns that her date has passed on a lethal curse that can only be shed by sleeping with another unsuspecting partner.
My rating: 2/5
My thoughts: This is another horror movie that I’ve been wanting to see since it came out, but I kept putting it off. Unlike Terrifier, this one is much more of a suspense/psychological/supernatural type of horror. I always heard pretty decent things about it, so I finally gave it a watch. Honestly, I didn’t really like it. It’s basically a metaphor for sexual promiscuity and STD’s, which I thought was an original concept. That’s what drew me into wanting to see the film in the first place. However, I just wasn’t that into the execution. I found myself slightly bored and checking my phone throughout. I also thought the main character was kind of dumb, as well as the way the movie ended. I didn’t understand why she didn’t just find some stranger to hook up with from the get go and pass it along. I guess that’s where the moral high ground comes in. Plus, then we probably wouldn’t have much of a movie. Still, it kind of annoyed me. The whole movie is basically her and her friends running from this supernatural being that’s after her, and her friends screaming and saying, “Omg, what do you see?” (Because it’s invisible to them, and only she can see it). I probably wouldn’t give this movie a second watch.
I have not heard of any of these before!!

That clown definitely is creeping me out. I think it’s better & scarier when the villain doesn’t talk so much! & I actually like when the characters do dumb things because I enjoy shouting at & worrying about them lol.
The second one sounds pretty dumb… especially that only she can see the thing that’s after her!

My jaw actually dropped during some scenes in Terrifier and that rarely ever happens when I watch horror movies. It was pretty brutal. lol

I can’t say I was disappointed with It Follows cause I didn’t expect much, but it’s sucked haha the story was stupid to me and the only thing that was scary was the super tall dude 🤣 sometimes when there’s nothing else on, I need to learn to just take a nap instead of picking a sub-par movie lol

I heard mostly good things from people about It Follows after it first came out, so I think my expectations were a little high. It’s definitely an overrated movie though. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks so. 🙂

I’m not the type to just randomly sleep with someone, but that’s what I would do if it meant my life would be saved. lol

YES, I loved Terrifier! I watched it last month and was impressed by it! I thought it was very old school and actually pretty “scary.” I liked It Follows, but it definitely isn’t in my top 50 favorites or anything.

I really hope they make a sequel to Terrifier! Art the Clown is too good of a villain not to have another one.

Nice Post lovely. I haven’t heard if either of these, but that isn’t surprising seen as I’m not a horror fan. However, my brother is, so I’ll definitely be suggestion Terrifier to him. ☺️🎃
