2019 Has Struck Again

If you happened to catch my last post, I mentioned how I haven’t been having much luck since the year changed. Well, 2019 has struck again. Last night I fell down the stairs (again). This time it was the basement steps and I fell from almost the very top. Both sets of stairs in my house are made of wood, so I didn’t have any carpeting or anything to help soften the blow.

I had just gotten home from work when it happened, so I hadn’t even been drinking or anything. I always imagined if I fell down the steps it would be because I was drunk. Go figure that I was actually sober when it happened. It happened so fast, yet it’s almost like it was slowed down at the same time. My left foot just slipped, causing me to fall backwards. When I fell, I landed on my tailbone, which took most of the hit. My back also hit the stairs, leaving a mark, and I smacked the back of my head on one of the steps. My wrist must have also been brushing against the stairs because I have a brush burn, which is pretty sore.

Once I reached the bottom of the stairs, I started crying and screaming bloody murder. My kitty Cameron was at the top of the stairs and saw it happen. When he heard me crying like that, he started howling really loud. My sweet little guy, it made him upset that I was hurt. Bless his little feline heart. My mom had just gone to bed, but she must have heard the commotion because she came down to see what was going on. She found me at the bottom of the steps and asked me if I wanted her to take me to the hospital. I said no. I was hurt, but it didn’t seem that serious.

On Friday nights after work, I usually have some drinks and watch a movie or two. Obviously this spoiled my plans because I didn’t think I should be drinking after suffering my fall. Plus, I was so shaken up that I didn’t really feel that well. I started getting lightheaded and feeling nauseous. I thought for sure I was going to throw up. I laid down in bed for a little while and just took some deep breaths. Then I started to feel better.

I woke up this morning in a fair amount of pain. I had to go to the bathroom, but it was extremely hard and painful for me to get out of bed and walk the short distance to the bathroom. Any time any of my weight is directed toward my tailbone/buttox area, it really hurts. I took some ibuprofen and went back to sleep for a little bit. When I woke back up, I was still quite sore, but I was able to move around easier. The ibuprofen definitely helps, so I’m going to keep taking it periodically. I’m also currently sitting on an ice pack.

I’m really worried about work on Monday. I’m hoping I won’t be as sore by then. I sit at a desk, so that shouldn’t be too bad. However, part of my job is carrying trays of work to the warehouse, so I think I might need help doing that. Everyone told me I should go see a doctor, but I’m really stubborn when it comes to that. I hate getting medical care because the health care system in this country is a joke. It costs an arm and a leg, even with insurance. Plus, I’m sure they’ll just tell me to put ice on it and take OTC pain medicine, which I’m already doing.

I’m kind of relieved this happened on a Friday night though because at least this gives me the whole weekend to relax and rest up before having to be back at work. If I would have had to work today, I’m not sure I would have made it.

  1. Aww no, sorry to hear about your fall! Hopefully you feel a little better by the end of the weekend and if you don’t feel right on Monday maybe you’d be able to take the day off? *sending hugs* ❤

    1. Thank you. We’ve just begun our end of year procedures at my job (which are tax related), and it makes for a very time consuming, complex, and stressful process. My boss and co-workers would all be furious with me if I took off. That’s one thing I hate about my job. There’s never really a good time to take off, but now would be one of the worst times. I know sometimes it’s out of your control though.

    1. Hopefully it heals quickly. My lower back, right above my butt, is swollen. I’ve been taking medicine and putting a cold pack on it. I’m used to sitting certain ways, and now I can’t. It’s annoying. 😛

  2. I wish you all the health this year.2019 might not have brought you luck yet, but I’m sure the rest of the year will be one of speedy recovery and lots of success.Sending you all the good vibes from across the globe haha x

    1. Thank you! I’m starting to think this was a self fulfilling prophecy because I had such a great 2018, that I kept thinking and saying that 2019 would probably suck, and so far it has. I’m just going to try to think positive vibes from now on and maybe it will get better. 🙂

  3. Gosh that’s terrible! I’m so sorry that happened to you. Hopefully you’re feeling much better now and I also hope work wasn’t too bad for you.
I’m the same way, no going to the hospital if I’m not dying lol.
Sending good vibes your way! ❤️

  4. Ohhh my gosh, girl! I didn’t realize how hard that fall was. Goodness, I hope you are feeling better. Not to go into nurse mode- but if you continue to be nauseous I would go into urgent care and make sure your everything is ok. Sounds like you hit it pretty hard? Keep us posted ❤ So sorry that happened to you, beauty!

  5. Oh my gosh, Britney! I hope everything is all healed up and you’re feeling better now. ♡ You should get carpet and those plastic covers attached to your stairs. That’s what my parents always did to our basements.

& I totally see why you didn’t go to the doctor, I wouldn’t have either. Health care really is a joke! & they rarely even help you!

  6. I’m so sorry to hear about your fall! That’s terrible. Tailbone bruising can take awhile to heal, and sometimes it’ll hurt/ache in the future. When I was 13 (now 21) I went roller skating and fell so hard on my tailbone that I blacked out for a few seconds. If I sit for too long, it’ll start to ache now, and sometimes it still bothers me a little bit. I hope you took the weekend to rest up and heal, and I hope it feels better soon!

  7. Could of sworn that I already left a comment.

I’ve fallen down my steps a bunch of times, and have even managed to fall up them (lol wtf). One time, I landed right on my shoulder and I swore that I broke it, or knocked it out of place, but it was just really bruised. Hurt for a few weeks.

    I’m glad you’re okay.
