January Blogger Questionnaire: Winter & New Beginnings

522

I was reading a blog award post when I came up with this idea. I know that not all bloggers like to participate in awards because they don’t want to clog up their blog or it doesn’t fit in with their niche. Whatever the reason, I totally understand. I’ve done a few awards posts here on my blog, but I’ve also been nominated for many I haven’t done, just because it didn’t fit in with my posting schedule at the time.

Still, one of the great things about those awards is the questions that bloggers answer, which allows you to get to know them a little better. Now that a new year is upon us, I thought I might try something new here on my blog. Once a month, I would like to do one of these blogger questionnaire’s.

Basically, it will be where I post a set of questions, and you bloggers can answer them right here in the comments, if you wish. No need to post anything on your blog, and this can be a way for me to get to know my fellow bloggers even more, and it can also allow you the opportunity to get to know others. Blogging wouldn’t be as rewarding if it wasn’t for the community that comes along with it.

6 Months of Blogging!

501
I can’t believe it has already been six months since I created this blog! Time sure does fly. I was an active blogger from 2005-2011 until I decided to give it up, and I stayed gone for a solid six years. There were times I contemplated getting back into blogging, and it was something that I thought about quite a bit before creating this one. I was worried I wouldn’t have anything worth writing about though. It was a little different back then. Blogging was more like a journal open to the public. A lot of bloggers, myself included, would blog about every little thing that was happening in our lives. Of course, when you’re a teenager and then transition into your 20’s, there’s a lot more drama and craziness. At least that’s how it was for me. Now that I’m in my late 20’s, my life is pretty much a borefest. I go to work, come home, eat, play with my cat, watch TV shows or movies, go to sleep, repeat.

Sparkle VoxBox

voxbox01

I received my first VoxBox! I’m really excited about it because for some reason I never thought I would be considered for one. Receiving a box of products completely free seemed almost too good to be true for me.

If you don’t know what a VoxBox is, it’s a box of products that is mailed to you for free in exchange for you sharing on social media as well as filling out a mandatory survey that is sent to you a little while after you get a box. It is a part of the Influenster site and app. You may or may not receive a box each month. They are sent out based on your preferences and snap survey’s that you have to fill out to be considered. If they think you fit the demographic for their current box, they will send you a pre-qualification survey via email asking if you’re open to trying and reviewing certain types of products. Then they notify you again if you’ve been chosen to receive a box.

I’m so happy I was picked to receive this box! I hope I am picked for more as well, but here are some of my thoughts on this one.

Awesome Blogger Award

I was nominated for the Awesome Blogger Award all the way back in August by EyeSeeSomething. (Yeah, I know I’m a little late getting to this). Thanks for the nomination! I was also just nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award by Joy, but I’ve already done that post here, so I’ll just link to it.

What is it?

This is an award for the absolutely wonderful writers all across the blogging world. They have beautiful blogs, are kind and lovely, and always find a way to add happiness and laughter to the lives of their readers. That is what truly defines an awesome blogger.

100 Followers! + Shopping Trip

179

First, I want to say thank you to everyone who has followed me so far! I have now passed 100 followers! I opened this blog two and a half months ago, and I was nervous that nobody would be interested and I would be talking to myself. I didn’t think I would gain this many followers in such a short time. I do admit I get down on myself sometimes because I see other bloggers who started theirs around the same time (or even after me), and they have twice as many followers now. I have to remind myself that it’s not a competition or a popularity contest. As long as I’m having fun doing what I’m doing (which I am), then that’s what matters. Of course I want people to like and be interested in what I have to say. I think that’s something we all want. I’m just glad I’ve been able to continually grow my blog.

Yesterday, I went to the mall on a little shopping trip. I honestly can’t remember the last time I went to the mall. As I’ve mentioned previously, I’m a bit of a homebody. I also like shopping at stores that we don’t have in the mall here, so I tend to buy everything online. Well, I attempted to buy jeans online a while back too, and that didn’t work out so well. It’s a shame too because I absolutely loved those jeans, but despite being the size I normally wear, I couldn’t pull them up over my butt. From that moment, I decided any time I needed new jeans I would have to try them on before I bought them. That’s what triggered my trip to the mall. I’ve been wearing the same jeans for about a decade now. They got to the point where I couldn’t wear them much longer. There were big holes in the butt (where I had to wear a long shirt to cover it), and rips up the leg. I needed new jeans, asap.

The Evolution of Blogging & Social Media

I was very active in the blog scene back in the mid-2000’s. I gave up blogging for many years, and I just recently came back two months ago. In these two months, I’ve noticed some differences in the blogging community. Particularly in how social media plays a role.

One of the reasons I gave up blogging was the rise of social media sites. I joined Twitter back in 2007, and once that started taking off, I began blogging less and less. It became easier and more convenient to just tweet my opinions or what was going on in my life rather than formulate a well thought out and time-consuming blog post. I did enjoy writing, but I felt like everything I wanted to say was already being said on social media. Why would people want to read my lengthy posts when they could get straight to the point with my 140-character tweets? I also shared all of my photos on Myspace and Facebook (before Instagram came along), so anyone who followed me could just see my pictures there instead of having to visit my blog.  Apparently I wasn’t the only blogger to have this mindset. Many of my blog buddies at the time were doing the same thing. I noticed many of them started blogging less, and some of them eventually gave up their blogs as well. We all followed each other on the different social media sites, so we were all still keeping up to date with each other. Blogging just started to seem pointless.

Liebster Award #2

Liebster

I was nominated for my second Liebster award by the lovely Maroon. Thanks!

Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.
  2. Display the award on your blog — by including it in your post and/or displaying it using a “widget” or a “gadget”. (Note that the best way to do this is to save the image to your own computer and then upload it to your blog post.)
  3. Answer 11 questions about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.
  4. Provide 11 random facts about yourself.
  5. Nominate 5 – 11 blogs that you feel deserve the award, who have a less than 1000 followers. (Note that you can always ask the blog owner this since not all blogs display a widget that lets the readers know this information!)
  6. Create a new list of questions for the blogger to answer.
  7. List these rules in your post (You can copy and paste from here.) Once you have written and published it, you then have to:
  8. Inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it (they might not have ever heard of it!)
