As I mentioned in my 13 Things on Etsy You Need If You Love Halloween post, I ordered this Halloween mystery bag from SugarMilkCo and told you I would post my thoughts once I received it. I was absolutely excited to receive this and see what goodies I got. It was also my first time ordering from this little vegan bath and body shop, and if you continue reading, you’ll find it was a bit of a hit and a miss.

What’s your favorite Fall outfit?
To be honest, I generally just wear the same type of clothes year-round, so I don’t have a favorite. I tend to stick with jeans and a t-shirt, and when it’s chilly I put a hoodie over top. Although, I do have a purple hoodie that I really like. I also have a dark blue fuzzy sweater that I like to wear in the Fall and Winter, but I hate that it’s hand-wash only. I would love to wear more sweaters if it wasn’t for that.
What is Fall weather like where you live?
Here in Maryland, we always joke about how we experience four seasons within one week. It seems to change from day to day. For example, the other day was cloudy and rainy in the 60’s. The next day it was sunny and in the 80’s, feeling like peak Summer. Then at night, it drops down to the 30’s and 40’s, feeling like Winter. We’ve even gotten snow in the Fall before. I’ll never forget the snow storm we got some years ago. It happened on Halloween. It was snowing all day, temperatures were in the 30’s, and it knocked our power out for 12 hours. I spent the entire day in bed just trying to stay warm. Thankfully, most of the snow we get does not knock our power out. That was just a particularly windy and wet snow storm.

Today I am presenting you with some awesome Halloween finds from Etsy. You can find so many awesome items on Etsy. Plus, they’re sold by ordinary people like you and me, or people trying to grow a business, as opposed to big-time companies, which is awesome. I always like supporting the little people. I am dying to have everything on this list!
Graveyard Party Bath Bomb Set
This set comes with a coffin bath bomb and 3 mini skull bath bombs. These are aromatherapy bath bombs for relaxation and are scented with lavender, chamomile, and peppermint.

I am quite the homebody, so you rarely find me going to stores. I much prefer online shopping in the comfort of my own home. However, I got the urge to stop by Target on my way home yesterday just to see what Halloween stuff they had out. I ended up getting a Boo throw pillow for the couch and a Happy Halloween sign for on the wall. I also got a gray faux fur throw for my bed (although not exactly Halloween related, but I’ll include it at the end of the post). There were quite a few other things I wanted but just didn’t have the money to spend at the moment. Here are some of the cool things I came across while I was there.

If I had the means and the money, I would love to throw a killer Halloween party. Of course you don’t have to be rich to throw an awesome party. However, with my birthday falling just a couple weeks after Halloween, I usually have a party then instead. Plus, my friend goes crazy with decorating her house, so she’s usually the one having a Halloween get-together. Still, I thought it would be fun to fantasize about all the things I would love to have at a Halloween bash, and it might even give you some ideas if you decide to throw one of your own.
Whether you choose to mail your invites, or send out your invites online (my preferred method), you can find cute and creative ways to do so. I’m absolutely loving these Costumes & Cocktails invites from Zazzle, as well as these Vampire-esque invites from Evite.
You can find these here and here.

I flipped my calendar over to October (to display this beautifully crafted pumpkin soup recipe), and honestly this is the most exciting calendar flip of the year. Yes, I am one of those people who is ecstatic about Fall and Halloween. (I’ve got quite a few Halloween themed posts planned for this month, so get ready.) Granted, I don’t go all out and wear multiple costumes or go crazy with decorating my house like a friend of mine does. (There’s going to be a post solely dedicated to her house later this month, once all the decorating is complete. Believe me, it’s a sight to see.) I probably would do those things if I had more time and money on my hands though. For me, Fall and Halloween is just a very nostalgic time. There’s a sort of comfort that comes with it, since many of my favorite childhood memories were during this time of year. I also just enjoy the simplistic aspect of it. That certain smell in the air, the chilly wind, and watching horror movies while finally being able to bundle up in blankets after being hot all summer. The Halloween candy is nice too, even if I don’t get to go trick or treating anymore.
October is also a great time for making changes, since it’s such a transitional time of year. I always get the urge around this time to do something different or make some kind of change. One of those changes is that I finally put up a new theme, and of course it’s Halloween themed. There are still some tweaks I might make, but overall I’m happy with how it turned out. Along with the new theme, comes a new URL. This blog is now located at surrealistique.com instead of the .wordpress.com domain. I never felt like having a domain name was super important. You can still have an audience and a fantastic blog without one. I just sort of look at it as an added bonus and an additional step in moving my blog forward, which I’ve really been having fun building and growing.

Since I did sequels last week, I thought it would be fun to list some of my favorite remakes this week.
Dawn of the Dead
I actually very much prefer this remake to the original. The zombie makeup is more terrifying, and I like that the zombies can be fast moving, as opposed to moving slow. My favorite scene in the remake is during the beginning when things are just starting to happen. The little zombie girl was super creepy, and I like when Sarah Polley’s character escapes the house and then you see the complete chaos that is taking place all around.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
This movie has a good cast. I like Jessica Biel and Eric Balfour in the leads. Everyone who was cast in the killer family was excellent too. Especially R. Lee Ermey. He’s brutal, terrifying, and absolutely perfect for this film. I actually found him to be scarier than Leatherface. I also love that the colors are desaturated in this movie. It just adds even more grittiness to the film.
Many people love Rob Zombie’s films, and there are many people who despise them. Halloween is probably the most controversial, since the original is a classic. Some people thought he butchered the movie and hated how he made Michael more human. Personally, I like that. The real monsters in this world are human, and it’s usually a combination of both nature and nurture that turns them into what they are. I really liked the look of Michael in this film. He’s huge, and the way he slams people around while killing them is brutal. I also like the dirty and torn look of his mask.
The Last House on the Left
This is definitely one of those remakes that is very well done. Some people might find this movie difficult to watch though. This film is very violent, and not just in a gory way. It’s also psychologically terrifying, since events in this film can and do happen in real life. The rape scene is especially disturbing, but it plays a big part in the family wanting to get revenge on their daughters attackers.
This is a great psychological horror film. Even though I think this movie is really good, it’s not one I can watch very often because of how real and terrifying Sean Bean is as John Ryder. The way he mentally tortures his victims before killing them is quite scary. He was definitely perfect for the role. I’m also a huge fan of Sophia Bush, and I love her in this movie. I thought she was badass. One of the other things I like about this remake is how visually appealing it is. The colors and scenery are pretty, despite all the terrible things happening.
