You may have noticed that I’m blogging less and less lately. I just don’t have the time or motivation to blog consistently like I used to. However, I don’t really want to give up blogging completely either. I definitely appreciate each and every one of you who still drop by my blog and check out my posts, even when I disappear for almost a month.
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Years. My Christmas went okay, but my New Years Eve didn’t completely go as planned. I’ll get to that in a bit. I’m going to share some photos from around Christmas time to now.
I had my 30th birthday party last Saturday. A family friend made a cake for me, which I wasn’t expecting. She is so good at cakes! She makes and decorates them herself. It was red velvet and had a whipped cream icing, which is my favorite. I don’t like the really sweet icings. However, I discovered that my body can’t handle eating stuff like that too well anymore. It seems like anything that ends in ‘cream’ (whipped cream, sour cream, ice cream, for example) does a number on my stomach. The cake was so delicious though. It was worth it. We called it the rave cake. As some of you know, if you’ve been reading, I was in the rave scene years back. Although I don’t rave anymore, it still has a special place in my heart. Plus, I still love anything neon and fluorescent.
What have I been up to since I got back from Ocean City? Not too much, aside from going back to work, watching movies, and eating lots of food. I got to try some new food places recently, which I’ll get to later in the post. I seriously get so excited about food! Haha.
At the end of August, I got bored one evening while I was still on vacation, so I decided to get all glammed up. Where did I go? Nowhere, but who cares. Sometimes it’s just fun doing your hair and makeup for no reason other than you just feel like it.
I just got back from Ocean City, MD yesterday evening. I went with my mom and aunt, and I also met up with Brandy while I was there. That was my first time seeing her in six years. We initially met through blogging and social media over a decade ago, and we’ve met up in person a total of five times now. It just worked out that we were able to take a trip to the beach at the same time, so our paths crossed again.
I hadn’t been to Ocean City since 2009, despite living only four hours away. We were only there for a few days. We left Monday morning and got home Wednesday evening. That’s more than enough for me though. I was so glad to be coming home. I absolutely love the beach, but going away on vacation is so exhausting. I’m highly introverted, so being around people non-stop for days straight with absolutely no alone time had me feeling tired and overwhelmed. Add on the swimming, walking, being in the sun all day, and lack of sleep, and it just about killed me. On the drive home, I felt so terrible. I had a throbbing head, my muscles were sore, and I was feeling a little queasy.
Today’s post is a little bit different from what I usually post here on my blog, but I am super excited about this one! I am pretty much obsessed with food, and yet I am not skilled at cooking, and I’m basically the queen of takeout and frozen meals. Rarely do I ever prepare my own food. I usually order food and go pick it up, or I just pop something in the microwave for several minutes and voila. Most of what I eat on a daily basis is not exactly healthy, and some type of meat is usually included. I’ve wanted to do something like this for a while, and I finally decided to go for it.
I thought it would be a fun experiment to step outside of my comfort zone, at least for one day. Not only would I be preparing all of my own meals, but each meal would be vegan. It sounds easy enough, right? For someone like myself, who never thinks about what I’m putting into my body and just eats whatever I’m hungry for, this took quite a bit of planning and dedication on my part.
I recently found out about vegan testing, which checks for possible nutrient deficiencies you might encounter if you decide to switch your diet. You can also test for animal-based allergies to see if removing animal products from your diet is the better choice for you. Sometimes we get headaches and/or stomach cramps and not think much about it, but we could have an allergy to something we are consuming, yet never even realize it. The tests at HealthLabs.com are a great way to discover what works with your body. If you’re interested in trying one of these kits, use my code: SURREALISTIQUE25 to receive 25% off all vegan testing.
The other night I got bored and was playing around with my NYX Love You So Mochi: Electric Pastels palette, which is one of my favorite shadow palettes. There is some fallout with this palette, but the colors are beautiful and well pigmented, which is why I love it so much. The colors also work very well together and blend nicely.
I did this look at night, so of course I didn’t have the benefit of natural light to truly capture it. I was pretty pleased with how it turned out though. After I do an eye look, sometimes I like to switch up the lips because it can really change the vibe of the look. The first lip color I started out with was NYX Cosmic Metals lip cream in shade Galactic. Then I switched to ColourPop Ultra Matte lip in shade Viper.
Which of these looks do you like the best? Make sure you let me know in the comments!
